CATS fans have cause for excitement with the 2024 fixture released for Geelong’s AFLW side released late

last week.

Geelong says it welcomes its 2024 draw, with the squad to open this year’s campaign in primetime at home against Melbourne.

The Cats host the Demons on August 31 at GHMBA Stadium, the first of five games at the Cattery this year.

Geelong will also play key fixtures at home, going up against regular finals participants Brisbane and Adelaide.

Dan Lowther’s list will play 11 games across 10 weeks, including two games in Week 6, taking on both Fremantle and Sydney at GMHBA Stadium within six days.

AFL head of broadcast operations and scheduling Josh Bowler said the introduction of mid-week footy provided more opportunities for fans to enjoy the women’s game.

“The NAB AFLW is starting to see the establishment of traditional marquee games and club rivalries being cemented.

“We consulted a number of key stakeholders in the fixture build including the AFLPA, Clubs and senior coaches when determining the most appropriate structure of the season.

“The mid-week matches will fall during the school holidays and provide great opportunities for fans to attend and watch at home on evenings that traditionally don’t have footy.

“We felt it was important for our fans to maintain the weekend timeslot structure we have seen in previous seasons, whilst also adding an additional game mid-week across the middle of the competition for fans to enjoy.”

Cats fans based in Melbourne can look forward to contests against North Melbourne Tasmanian Kangaroos at Arden Street Oval, Carlton at Ikon Park, and Richmond at the Swinburne Centre.

The AFLW’s themed rounds will be held in Week 7 for Pride Round and Weeks 9 and 10 for Indigenous Round.
