Ammos topple Saints, Joeys and Roos take Division Two and Three

GEELONG AMATEUR have been crowned senior women’s football Division 1 premiers after defeating St Mary’s 4.5.29 to 0.3.3.

All three divisions of senior women’s football played at Herne Hill Reserve this afternoon to determine the region’s best female footballing sides.

The ”Wammos” got out to an early advantage against the Saints and rode the momentum all the way to the final siren, keeping St Mary’s goalless through four quarters of play, and claiming a premiership under coach of the year, Tom Cashin.

Cheryl de Groot was awarded the best-on-ground honours in the Division 1 decider.

St Joseph’s won premiership hardware on home soil defeating Torquay 5.3.33 to 3.2.20 in a grinded out effort on Drew Oval.

Joeys’ Tamika Lewis took home best-on-ground recognition, notching up a pair of goals as well, meanwhile teammate Emmalyn Nekrep also added a pair of her own.

Torquay’s Sophie O’Meara slotted two goals, but it wasn’t enough to bring the Tigers back into the contest.

Anglesea kept South Barwon to just a single goal from the beginning of the second quarter, as the Kangaroos ran away with a handy 27-point win.

 

Iahnee Firth led the way for the Roos with three goals and Camille King with two, as the Surf Coast side finished the contest with 6.6.42 to the Swans’ 2.3.15.

Ruby Manson was superb, securing Division 3’s best-on-ground awards.
