Anglesea Golf Club – November 1, 2018

WHAT a huge week! Thank you to all our sponsors and players for making the 64th Annual Anglesea Golf Club Open Week a raging success.

On Monday, October 22 we hosted the Wine Down 4 player teams event, sponsored by Mt Duneed Wines. A lot of fun was had! The overall winners were Rick Gribben, Peter Atherden, Frank Tait and Russ Murfitt with 126 points while most people in the room won a bottle of wine or two.

On Tuesday, October 23 a women’s 4BBB Par was played, sponsored by Klein’s Anglesea Hotel. The winners were Jules Rolfe and Marg Lacey with +8, while Lorraine Elliott and Jenny Inman finished Runners Up with +5 on a countback. The men’s 4BBB Par event was sponsored by HJC Financial Services, with Barry Coleman and Pete Griffiths winning the event with +8. Rob Petho and Ray Carter finished Runners Up with +7 on a countback.

On Wednesday, October 24 the Men played the Sportsmen’s Par event, sponsored by West Carr Harvey. David Griffiths won the coveted Golden Ball Trophy with a great score of +7, while Greg Davis finished Runners Up with +5. Ball rundown to square points on a countback.

On Thursday, October 25 the Women played a Stroke and Stableford Event sponsored by Freshwater Creek Cakes and Anglesea IGA. The A Grade winner was Janet Coombes with 72 nett from Runner Up Sue Bowler who returned 75 nett. Linda Aimers won B Grade with 35 Stableford points on a countback from Runner Up Nancy Warhurst who also scored 35 points. Lyn James won C Grade with a score of 35 points while Sue Neill finished Runner Up with 34 points. Ball rundown to 28 points on a countback.

On Friday, October 26 a Women’s Modified Stableford was played, sponsored by Great Ocean Road Real Estate. The Winners were Noelene Dumbrell, Sue Caldwell, Lesley McMaster and Jenny Inman with 99 points. The men’s Modified Stableford was sponsored by Carpet House with the team of Merv Worsfold, Stuart McKee, Connor McKee and Lewis Alexopoulos winning with a score of 104 points.

On Saturday, October 27 the Men and Women played Stroke sponsored by Trevaskis Electrics. The Men’s A Grade Gross Winner was Stewart Drayton with 77. Wayne Pipe won the nett event with 69 nett. The B Grade gross winner was Peter Wagner with 86 gross. Bryan James won the B Grade nett with 73 nett, on a countback. Malcolm Mullins won C the Grade Gross 97 gross, while Jack Bone won the C Grade nett with 71 nett. The Women’s Winner was Ella Coleman with 73 nett.

Sunday, October 28 was the final event of Open Week, a Canadian Foursomes event sponsored by Tracey Lowry Travel Managers.. The Gross winner was John Owen and Caroline Dickins with 76 gross. The nett winners were Chris Duffield and Denise Pennings with a score of 67 ¾. The Nett Runners Up were Tony Speed and Barb Hinton with 68 5/8 nett while Dick Fowlston and Diane Griffiths finished third with 70 ¾.
