LOCAL ski superstar Jakara Anthony is off to a flying start to her World Championship defence, claiming back-to-back victories.

Anthony, who won in Ruka, Finland a fortnight ago to open her 2023/24 World Cup campaign, took home a first-place finish at Idre Fjäll, Sweden over the weekend to make it two from two.

The Barwon Heads local and 2022 Olympic gold medallist scored 79.74 points in the final medal round on Saturday, outperforming Japan’s Rino Yanagimoto and Olivia Giaccio of the United States on the podium.

“It’s always nice to go 1st-1st-1st through all of the rounds,” Anthony said after her win.

“It was a little different out here competing, coming out and going out straight into finals, it’s not something we do super regularly, so I was pretty happy to get out there and get going pretty fast.”

Anthony made the most of her two days in the Swedish ski resort, earning a bronze medal the following day in the dual moguls, edging out Yanagimoto again on her final run.

“It’s a pretty cool way to kick off the season, winning the first event and then backing up here,” Anthony said.

“We have another five starts before Christmas, so [I’m] looking to keep carrying that momentum.”

Following two events of the FIS Freestyle Ski World Cup, Anthony sits in sole position at the top of the overall moguls classification on 260 points, followed by Yanagimoto with 200 points and American Jaelin Kauf with 190 points.
