STRONG scoring, a hole-in-one and several tightly contested monthly medal events highlighted another busy week of golf across the Surf Coast and Bellarine.

At The Sands, club championship action headlined the week, with Hunter Togni taking out the men’s open ahead of Luke Slater, while Danielle Walker won the women’s open from Karen Lombardi.

Bill Mitchell and Domenic Lombardi claimed the men’s B and C-grade titles respectively, with Norma Schultz and Sally Miller leading the women’s lower grades. Brian Kruger rounded out the honours by winning the men’s seniors division.

Competition play across the week produced several standout scores. Jarrod McMullen (18) won Monday 4 May’s medley stableford with 36 points, while Wednesday 6 May saw John McLachlan (23) top C-grade with 40 points and Darrell Nash (11) claim B-grade with 39.

Friday 8 May’s medley par featured Stephen Silcock (17) winning B-grade with +3, before Saturday’s stableford delivered some of the strongest rounds of the week.

Chris Brunt (22) posted 42 points to win C-grade, Lachlan Haack (16) took B-grade with 41 and Timothy Jarman (3) edged A-grade on countback with 38 points. Allison Bell (23) won the women’s stableford with 34 points.

Sunday 10 May wrapped up the week with Jason Simpson (17) producing 41 points to win the medley stableford from Thomas Kerrigan (15) on 39.

At Anglesea, Wednesday 6 May’s men’s monthly medal stableford was highlighted by John McNamara’s (23) 41 points to win C-grade, while Stuart Hansford (21) claimed the monthly medal on countback with 38 points.

Thursday 7 May’s women’s monthly medal stroke produced an extraordinary finish, with Heather Jillard (26), Rae Ackland (30) and Ann Stokes (24) all carding rounds of 76, separated only on countback.

Saturday 9 May’s stableford saw Jim Dickson (15) continue his strong form with 42 points in B-grade, while Darren Hawkins (13) won A-grade with 40. Kitty O’Connor (44) claimed the women’s competition with 34 points.

Sunday 10 May featured another stableford round, with Bernie Stokes (15) winning the men’s event on 35 points and Kate Stanley (43) taking the women’s honours with 36.

Torquay’s weekly competitions produced another run of high scoring, highlighted by Ben Thomas’ hole-in-one on the 17th during Sunday 10 May’s stableford.

Tuesday 5 May’s women’s monthly medal saw Kelly Flynn (20) and Helen Mayne (42) record excellent rounds of 70 and 68 respectively to win their grades, while Louise Doedee (36) impressed with 43 points in the resort stableford.

Wednesday 6 May delivered one of the strongest overall days of scoring for the week. Michael Ryan (20) claimed the monthly medal with a round of 68, while Jon O’Neill (5) won A-grade stableford with 40 points and added an eagle on the 9th. Vin Cooney (34) also posted 40 points to win D-grade.

Saturday 9 May saw Beau O’Brien (18) produce the best round of the week at Torquay with 45 points in C-grade, while Gail Miller (40) led the women’s field with 42.

Eagles were recorded by Kyle Nestor and Jon O’Neill earlier in the week.

Sunday’s competition closed out another strong week for the club, with Ben Thomas backing up his ace with 40 points to win A-grade on countback, while Deborah Shoesmith (20) claimed the women’s event with 35 points.
