Barwon Heads back on top in BFL stunner
THE Bellarine Football League premiership is headed back to Barwon Heads following a stunning 12.12.84 to 3.11.29 win by the Seagulls over the Tigers.
Barwon Heads got the jump early in the contest, kicking 3.1.19 to Torquay’s 1.3.9, but the game still remained in the balance.
A lone goal in the second capped off an uneventful first half as both sides jostled for control, but no one could expect what would happen in the second half.
The Seagulls went on to outkick Torquay eight goals to two, limiting the Tigers to its lowest score of the season.
In a rewrite of the 2019 premiership decider, Barwon Heads would go on to claim the 55-point win and secure a sixth league trophy in the process.
Barwon Heads had seven different goal-scorers on the day with Lachlan Wilson tallying a game-high three majors.
Nick Avery, Sammy Baker and Brock Close each had a pair each, while Ryan Harvey, captain Mitch Herbison and Oliver Wiltshire all added to Barwon Heads’ total.
Just three Tigers hit the scoresheet, with Cal Currie, Sheldon Ham and Paul McMahon making up the sum of Torquay’s scoring efforts.
Seagull Sammy Baker was named best-on-ground with a superb performance up front.
