BELMONT have beaten Thomson by two points to secure the GDNL A Grade premiership in a thriller at St Albans Reserve earlier today (Saturday, September 20).

In a see-sawing clash, the Lions put a 43-point loss to the Tigers a fortnight ago behind them to flip the script and claim victory in testing conditions.

Thomson took a one-point lead into quarter time, and extended their lead to two points heading into the main break.

Following half-time, Belmont kicked into gear and turned their earlier deficit into a two-point lead heading into the final quarter.

In a tight last quarter, the Lions maintained their lead to confirm the flag-claiming win.

It was a shared goalscoring effort for Belmont, with Ella Wasik contributing 23 goals and Shayna Brown putting in 16 herself. For the Tigers, Bree Caldwell scored 19 goals and Emma Witham scored 18.

Thomson finished the home and away season on top of the ladder with an 18-2 record, with Belmont finishing second at 17-5, including their Round 13 clash.
