Birregurra hopes to field girls’ footy team
BIRREGURRA Football Netball Club (BFNC) are looking to form a junior girls’ team to give some young players the chance to play the sport they love.
The 137-year-old club is well-established. In 2019 they had two premiership-winning junior teams, with their senior side also finishing third on the ladder. They are now looking to field a girls’ side too.
BFNC junior football co-ordinator Gavin Brien said the club was eager to a be a part of the growth of women’s football.
“It is a starting point for us, to get a few girls and create a second team in the Colac area, because obviously Colac have a team, and then see if we can continue to grow girl’s football, which is obviously quite popular at the moment.”
People interested in having their children join can either phone Mr Brien on 0407 041 960 or Bec Diamond on 0407 300 062.
