THE always entertaining Bolt Blowers Invitational is making its return next month and all eyes are on making it the biggest one in recent memory.

The 16th edition of the tag team surfing event will take place on December 6 at Jan Juc and raise vital funds towards local mental health community-based programs.

At least 10 teams of seven surfers will take to the water on pre-1983 single fin or twin fin surfboards.

The event will also feature a retro surf and skate show and shine, a paddle battle, an afterparty and a charity auction at Bells Brewery.

Event organiser Marty Hamer said excitement was peaking ahead of what was sure to be a showstopping day.

“2021 was the last one we ran, so we are rapt to be back with it this year, it’s going to be fantastic.

“I’ve been a crazy skate and surfboard collector for 30 years, and this will provide us with a great chance to show off the equipment of that era, all for a great cause.”

Mr Hamer said he was hopeful of raising in excess of $30,000 for charity partners One in Five and Ocean Mind.

“From a fundraising perspective we are over the moon to have both our charities are on board.

“One in Five do more of the hard science side of things in trying to work out depression and what drives suicide, and then we’ve got Ocean Mind who are out in the field running the programs and connecting with our youth. We’ve got the two sides of things really covered all at once.”

There will be a $15 cover charge for the afterparty and auction night, with all proceeds supporting the cause.
