BELLARINE Peninsula Cricket Association put together one of their most impressive Melbourne Country Week campaigns, making the one-day grand final.
BPCA fell in the Division 3 decider to a Sunraysia Cricket Association outfit that made 8-303 and kept Bellarine to 169 from 39 overs at Williamstown Cricket Ground on Friday last week.
“[Losing] obviously wasn’t great from our point of view but going on the past couple of years, it was a great result to even make the final,” first-time captain Daniel Maclean said.
“We lost four out of four [matches] last year so to win three out of five and play in a final was pretty exciting for myself and the league.
“As far as we’re concerned, it was a big tick for the week for us.
“On the Tuesday, we took 4-0 [in 12 balls] to win the game by three runs and that kickstarted the week for us which was really, really good.”
Sunraysia ‘s Luke Stanbrook smacked 149 from 130, including a treble of sixes, that took the total into dangerous territory.
Pace bowler Maclean led the wicket-takers with 3-56 as Zac Jones and spinner Dane Wise-Graham collected two each.
BPCA got starts but no one could go on as Jasper Presswell (5-38) caused havoc for the victors.
