BPCA set to release season in blocks, latest fixture revealed
THE Bellarine Peninsula Cricket Association (BPCA) has released the next block of four rounds of the A1 fixture.
The BPCA will enter the Christmas break early, with no matches scheduled for December 19.
BPCA chairman Rob Pipan said this was because upon putting the fixture together the competition left some weeks available just in case there were any further COVID-19 delays or matches abandoned due to rain or heat. The BPCA has three weeks up its sleeve and given the smooth sailing throughout the start of the season and positive signs across the state as restrictions ease, it opted to give clubs and players an extended break.
The fixture will continue to be released in blocks, with matches currently released until January 9.
“If we lose one or two weeks, instead of me updating 10 rounds with dates and everything else, I only have to do three or four,” Pipan said regarding the releasing of the fixture.
The BPCA A1 competition is already beginning to take shape after four rounds. Interestingly, Anglesea and Barrabool have already opened up a two-game buffer on their nearest opponents, after the top four sides met over the weekend with the top two prevailing. While there is a logjam of clubs vying for position throughout the remainder of the ladder.
In the A2 competition, Winchelsea moved into top spot on the ladder after claiming its third win of the season while Little River displaced Inverleigh from top spot. Inverleigh remains in the top four, sitting third, while Portarlington rounds out the top four.
