TORQUAY’S Estella Carbonelli has inched closer to becoming an Australian champion for the first time, following her win at the 2026 Oz Grom Open.

The 12-year-old natural footer tasted victory again this past weekend in Lennox Head, making it her third national title of the year.

Her 10,000-point win has now shot her 7,000 points clear in the under 14 girls Australian Junior Surfing Rankings, with fellow local surfer Stevie O’Day currently sitting in equal second.

Carbonelli won two of her three heats leading up to the final, including a semi-final where she gathered two near-excellent scores.

Her 14.40-point total in the event final against Western Australian surfer Rosie Annesley was enough to secure the win.

Carbonelli will now head home to Victoria to prepare for the national ranking events at Bells Beach and Phillip Island in September and October.

A win at either event will all but sure up a national title for the Surf Coaster.
