GEELONG’S AFLW side will look to jump back into the top eight, as they face a flying Carlton outfit on Sunday (October 5) at GMHBA Stadium.
After winning three on the trot and sneaking back into finals contention, the Cats went down to third-placed Hawthorn in Round 7 and currently sit 10th on the ladder.
The Blues have impressed so far this season and have won four of their past five matches, including a thrilling nine-point win over Fremantle last weekend.
When they last faced off in Round 3 last season, Carlton held Geelong goalless and prevailed by 24 points at IKON Park. This time around, there is plenty on the line for both sides with the score anticipated to be much tighter.
Dominant Cats duo Georgie Prespakis and Nina Morrison will be on close watch for the Blues, who again posted impressive stat lines in their loss to the Hawks last round.
Established defenders like Becky Webster and Claudia Gunjaca will be crucial in limiting Carlton’s crafty forward line.
For the away side, Harriet Cordner and Dayna Finn sit first and second in the league for marks and will look to link up with gun midfielders like Abby McKay and Mimi Hill. Up forward, rookie Sophie McKay can continue an impressive start to her career with her pressure and ability to hit the scoreboard.
Sunday’s matchup looks set to be a cracker, with the clash kicking off at 3.05pm.
