Cats to tackle Demons in Geelong
The Cats are coming off successive losses to the Saints and Lions and need a win this evening against the Demons to even their ledger on the season at 2-2.
This past weekend, Geelong was defeated by the Brisbane Lions by nine points in a see-sawing affair.
The Cats were unable to stop a second half onslaught from the Lions, who came back from 32 points down late in the second term to run home winners.
Max Holmes was prolific for the Cats in the midfield, collecting 29 disposals and kicking a goal.
Bailey Smith had 25 touches and 11 tackles, while Gryan Miers collected 22 disposals of his own.
Patrick Dangerfield was the only multiple goalscorer for the game, kicking two majors.
Geelong Cats coach Chris Scott said it was annoying to let a good opportunity to win slip.
“We were in complete control early, but they got a bit of a sniff and some of their good players got into the game.
“The ball was in their forward half for way too long in the third quarter and it didn’t give us a chance to put their defence under pressure.
“We weren’t able to execute and use the ball as fluently as they did.”
Each side has won five of their past 10 matches, with six of the decided by 15 points or less.
Geelong lost to the Demons by eight points in their most recent matchup in Round 8 last year.
Tonight’s clash will be broadcast live and free on Channel 7 from 7.30pm.
