Surfcoast Chargers are through to the grand final of the Big V Division Two Men competition, after a nail‑biting victory over Collingwood All Stars.
The Chargers held off a valiant All Stars side to prevail by just two points, winning 88‑86 in front of a packed‑out home crowd at Wurdi Baierr Stadium.
It was just two weeks ago that the Chargers faced the All Stars in the qualifying final, and they were again matched up on Saturday night (16th August) but this time with much more on the line.
The home side fed off the electric support on the sidelines, starting hot and taking a five‑point lead into half time.
This lead extended to ten at the final change, but the All Stars fought back to get within two points with 21 seconds to play.
Chargers captain Jason Reardon was the hero, nailing a fadeaway three pointer to take the lead to five with five seconds on the clock. Despite All Stars gun Jalen Barker hitting a three back in response, the Chargers hung on in the final seconds and booked themselves a spot in the big dance.
For the Chargers, Reardon and Dexter Graham led the way with 22 points each. Rohan Jarvie and young gun Harry Moran also contributed 12 points apiece.
All Stars captain Jason Daniels poured in 28 points, with Barker also putting up 21 and eight rebounds.
The Chargers now again face Sherbrooke in the grand final, who they lost to last week in the semi‑final. They get their chance for the ultimate revenge on Saturday night at Upwey Stadium.
