CLAWS OUT
PRELIMINARY final wins last Saturday have seen Torquay make the senior grand finals in both netball and football.
Both finals will be held at Torquay’s Spring Creek Reserve, with the football grand final beginning 2.10pm and the netball at 3pm.
In the netball, Torquay will play Geelong Amateurs.
Torquay finished top of the table, but then lost to Geelong in the semi-final.
This sent them into the preliminary final where they convincingly defeated Modewarre 46-35, a performance Torquay’s coach Courtney Cuolahan said she wanted them to repeat in the grand final.
“We’ll be looking to bring much the same on Saturday, it’ll be a fierce contest between us and Ammos.”
In the football, Torquay will face Barwon Heads, having defeated Geelong Amateur in a tense elimination final.
Torquay won 12.20 (92) to 13.7 (85), while Barwon Heads made the grand final by thrashing Geelong Amateur the week before 23.10 (148) to 9.5 (59).
Torquay captain Ben Raidme said Torquay were wary of their opponents.
“They beat us in the first final. Then we watched them dismantle Geelong Amateur last week.
“They’ve been able to back up last year’s grand final appearance and get back in to have a crack again.”
In the home and away season, they played each other twice with Torquay losing the first game away and winning the second game at home.
The Tigers seconds will play Modewarre in the reserves grand final.
