JAN Juc Surf Life Saving Club is preparing for the season ahead, planning to resume programs under a “new normal”.

Nippers area director Brett Thompson said Jan Juc SLSC was working on the club’s regular summer holiday program and was optimistic the summer school holidays would be “as close to our new normal” as possible, with the club adapting to new regulations.

“If regional Victoria has a chance to open sooner and return to sport, we will look to offer our programs earlier,” he said.

“To help us with planning for the season ahead, it would be extremely helpful for as many people as possible to get their memberships finalised earlier rather than later, as we believe there will be a large influx in the lead up to nipper program commencing after Christmas.

“Nippers Surf Education and Surf Sports is great fun and with it being held outdoors and in the water, we believe it will be able to run this season.”

Competition director Tim Watson said the club’s surfboat squad would hit the water again this upcoming season with member’s looking forward to seeing the club’s new boat ‘The Sedge’ in action.

“Lots of excitement continues to build around our surfboats squad and we look forward to this program continuing to grow each season,” Mr Watson said.

“This year we have unfortunately had the Pool Competition cancelled, it is unfortunate for our keen pool lifesavers, but we will continue to provide these opportunities once the current pandemic is over and competition can resume.

“We are ready and looking forward to resuming full training very soon.

“Our competition squad has a youth focus and the squad will again have options for swim, board and ski training six to seven days per week, while our older more experienced athletes also get the chance to train and push themselves, but also be mentors to the young group of competitors keen to have a crack.”
