Coaches return for another two seasons

DOM Gleeson and Courtney Cuolahan will lead the Torquay Tigers in 2021, with the pair committing to the club for the next two seasons.

Gleeson’s reappointment will be his seventh season with Torquay Football Club, making him the longest serving coach at Torquay, since the club’s re-establishment 1952, overtaking Clive Brown who coached from 1965-1970.

“Following the disappointment of not having a senior men’s season in 2020, the decision to reappoint Dom Gleeson as our senior coach was a simple decision for the committee,” club president Jenny Wood said.

“Dom is a quality person and leads our coaching group exceptionally well. Dom’s growth as a coach over the past six seasons has been extraordinary which was only highlighted again during the disappointment of 2020.”

Gleeson said he was honoured to be appointed senior coach for the next two years.

“After the disappointment of having the 2020 season cancelled, I’m excited about what lies ahead for our recruits and the rest of the playing group and looking forward to them taking to the ground as a team.

“The club and I’ll continue building on the program we have established over the past six seasons.”

Cuolahan joined the Torquay Netball Club in 2013, and in her first year coached A and B Grades in premiership wins. In the years following she coached for a further seven seasons and won the B Grade premiership in 2014, A Grade in 2016 and again in 2019.

“At the grand final breakfast in 2019 I was asked what Courtney meant to our club, my answer was simple and is unchanged today; she is the complete package,” president Meagan Mifsud said.

“Courtney is an amazing mother to five children, a caring and devoted wife, a great friend to many and one of the best personalities you could ask for around your club. She is certainly one of the most amazing people I have met during my 14 years as a club member. Her enthusiasm regarding netball is infectious and her rapport with the senior playing group amazing.”

Cuolahan said she was excited to lead along with the club’s hardworking committee and volunteers.
“After missing season 2020 due to COVID-19 it has made me realise how much netball and our club mean to not only myself but also my family,” she said.

“I cannot wait to get back out on court (and off ) with the players when we are allowed to.”
