Considine and Conroy earn Bells Beach Longboard Classic spots
BELLARINE Peninsula surfers Ben Considine and Bea Conroy have clinched spots in 2025 Bells Beach Longboard Classic with big wins at state level over the weekend.
The pair claimed top honours at Round 2 of the Victorian Longboard Titles at Point Impossible, earning themselves coveted wildcards into the world tour event this September.
The weekend’s competition saw more than 50 of the state’s best longboarders battle it out for ultimate bragging rights in tricky onshore conditions.
The Open Men’s final was an elite showcase of longboarding from Ben Considine.
The powerful goofy footer wasted no time stamping his authority on the heat by posting a 7.83 for a critical hang ten and seamless carving turn.
His momentum continued when he stood up and did an exceptional nose ride and another carving manoeuvre, earning himself an 8.17-point ride.
Challenger Tom Fahey kept the final alive with a 7.07 of his own, before Considine delivered the wave of the final, a 9.00-point ride.
The victory not only earned Considine the win in the event, but the overall state championship.
“The final went well today, I started with some strong scores and some waves that linked up, it was tricky out there but I was lucky to snag a couple.
“Going back to Bells is epic, I’ve done a lot of work from a strategy perspective and the all-round surfing game, so I can’t wait to compete with the best and see how I go!”
In the Open Women’s final, Torquay surfer Rori Reyntjes sett the tone early, locking in a
6.50 ride.
Conroy kicked off with a 5.17 of her own, before Reyntjes extended her lead with a 4.33 for a precise drop-knee carve.
With less than five minutes remaining, Conroy found her moment and took off on a long-running right hander.
The natural-footer glided down the line with composure and walked the board with finesse to score a 6.40-point ride, propelling her into the lead and ultimately securing her the win.

“The conditions were really difficult, but I was happy to get the win,” said Conroy.
“It’s really good and motivating to make it into the event at Bells as it will refocus my surfing, and I’m excited for the winter of waves ahead.”
Lorne surfer Greg Brown proved age is just a number by putting on a masterclass in the Over 50 and Over 60 Men’s divisions.
Brown impressed judges and spectators alike with a combination of noseriding and sharp forehand carves.
His consistency saw him post heat totals of over 15 points in both divisions.
Other local winners were Harry Nelson (Torquay, Under 18 Mixed) and Bob Smith (Jan Juc, Over 70 Men).
