CURLEWIS GOLF CLUB – March 28, 2019

March 28, 2019 BY

CONGRATULATIONS to our two Men’s Pennant Teams who started their campaign with fine victories on Sunday. Our Veterans Pennant Team lost their last round but have 3 wins out of 4.

Division 2 had another longer trip this week, down to Anglesea to play East Geelong. Another very strong result, winning 6/1, with our only loss being Cam Bowers ending up 1 down. I’ve been asked by Cam not to mention his putting on the last hole, so I won’t! All the other matches were comfortable wins.

The team decided that Matt McFarlane and Todd Morgan didn’t need support on 17, as both were dormie 2 up on the tee. Great fight backs by those 2 after being 2 down late in the first 9. Josh Vrbovski, Greg Bishop, Doug Parkin and Steve McNamara had very solid wins, and comfortably avoided having to go up the hill on 17. A great result from the team. Next
week we are up against Lonsdale at East Geelong.

Division 3 had another tight match, up against Winchelsea at Barwon Valley. Eric Fleming and Tom Dunkin finished early with big wins. Wayne Marendaz got a solid win on the board. Chris Henderson and Bernie Ryan went down prior to the last hole. Steve Cadby took his match to the last hole but went down after hitting his tee shot into the (empty) water hazard. This left Marty Chaffey needing a half on the last to secure a win for Curlewis.

Despite hitting his tee shot into the hazard and leaving his next shot in it, Marty recovered with a great bogey and was able to capitalise on some interesting choices by his opponent to win the hole to finish 2 up and give Curlewis a 4/3 win. Next week division 3 play fellow undefeated Torquay at Winchelsea.

Good luck to the Curlewis Women’s teams starting their season this Friday. We again have two teams in Division 1 (great effort everyone), and a team in Division 5. Eagles: Ben Zanghi with a marvellous hole-in-one on Saturday 17th.
