Djarrk to host first round of Victorian Open Series
ENTRIES have now opened for the first round of the 2022/23 Victorian Open Series, with the three-part series kicking off at Djarrk (Bells Beach) on September 10.
The event series is the key pathway into the Rip Curl Pro Victorian Trials and will give one Victorian a spot in the main event draw of the prestigious Rip Curl Pro in Easter next year.
“The Victorian Open Series is an integral part of our development pathway” Surfing Victoria CEO Adam Robertson said.
“Many Victorian surfers who have gone on to the Championship Tour and Qualifying Series have gone through the Victorian Open Series.
“It is an incredible stepping stone for surfers to progress and make it to the next level.”
Former open champions include Surf Coast pair India Robinson and Xavier Huxtable, Point Lonsdale surfer/shaper Mark Phipps and former championship tour surfer Troy Brooks.
Jan Juc local and current Open Men’s state champion Xavier Huxtable will be looking to assert his dominance on the series once again in 2022/23, hoping he can book a spot in the Rip Curl Pro Trials once again.
“To get that opportunity to win a state title and then go on to surf in the main event at Bells, gives me plenty of excitement going into the event series,” Huxtable said.
“The event is a great pathway and opportunity that we have here in Victoria, so hopefully we get some great waves and the best surfers in our state can battle it out to see who reigns supreme.”
After beginning at Bells Beach on September 10, the event will head to the Mornington Peninsula at the end of January and then continue on to Phillip Island in late February.
