Droomer secures runner-up at Peel Pro Junior
JAN JUC surfer Willis Droomer has ripped his way to a runner-up finish at the Peel Pro Junior in Mandurah, Western Australia.
The former ISA World Junior Champion in Droomer shone throughout the national U/20 junior event, dropping excellent scores in all his heats on the way to the men’s final.
Droomer led early on in the final on the strength of a 7.83 (from a possible 10) and backed it up with a solid 6.67 to put himself in good stead.
However, fellow finalist Marlon Harrison (Coolangatta, QLD) brought his absolute best and clinched two excellent scores to put it out of Droomer’s reach as the buzzer sounded.
Droomer said he was thrilled with his result and to have spent some time out west.
“This is my first time to Mandurah, and coming away with a good result makes the trip worth it.
“The morning was absolutely cooking, it’s so good to have some high-performance waves, and to make the final with Marsy was epic.”
Surfing WA events manager Justin Majeks said the Mandurah event was a huge success.
“Mandurah most definitely delivered for us, and it’s been a great way to kick off the WA Pro Surf Series.
“Congratulations to our event champions, and big thanks to the Mandurah surfing community for sharing their waves and stoke over the weekend.”
Droomer also secured a runner-up finish at the Cape Naturaliste Pro QS1000 event at Yallingup last weekend, continuing his success out west.
