BARWON Heads have continued their hot start to the season in day one of Round 5 in BPCA A1 Grade, finishing their innings on a solid 9/239 against Anglesea.
After 75 overs, 61 runs each from Max Melzer and Miller Moulton led to Heads’ strong total.
Ky Eskrigge needed just 16 overs to take five wickets for the Roos, who now turn their attention to chasing down last year’s grand finalists in day two this weekend.
A six-wicket effort from Patrick Mileto saw Queenscliff topple Jan Juc for just 119.
The Sharks entered the match as favourites, but now face an uphill battle to avoid a 2-3 record. Meanwhile, Queenscliff will start day two at 0/28 and can win their second match of the year should they chase down the low total.
Barrabool made a decent total of 192 before going all out in the 75th over against Drysdale and must perform well with the ball to get off the bottom of the ladder.
The Hawks put together an even performance with the ball in the first innings, with Blake Dobbin and Mitchell Stephens both taking three wickets. They have been shaky when batting so far this season but will look to turn things around to secure their third win on day two.
Inverleigh have held Armstrong Creek to a gettable score of 186, knocking the Titans out for just 186 in 71 overs. Hamish Flett and David Peel were the standouts in the Kookaburras’ bowling attack, both taking four wickets.
In BPCA A2 Grade, Ocean Grove went all out for 210 thanks to a combined seven wickets from Inverleigh’s Oscar Cutajar and James Burns, whilst Winchelsea rolled Surf Coast for just 90 and finished the day at 5/105 with the bat.
Portarlington bowled Collendina all out for 217 and will look to chase their score down in day two. Wallington set themselves a target score of 106 after bowling Newcomb all out on day one.
