Falcons trio feature at AFL Draft Combine
THREE Geelong Falcons have put their best foot forward ahead of November’s AFL Draft after participating in the Draft Combine testing.
Trio Hugo Mikunda (Bell Park), Jesse Mellor (Geelong West) and Josh Lindsay (Newtown & Chilwell) all featured at the athletic testing event in Melbourne from October 3 to October 5.
Following a 2km time trial at Collingwood’s AIA Centre, testing was held at the State Netball Hockey Centre, with participants trying their luck in the 20m sprint, agility and running vertical jump tests.
AFL clubs also interviewed the attendees as they prepare for the draft, which will run across November 19 and November 20.
The three Falcons also impressed when they represented Victoria Country in the recent under-18 Boys Championship, with Mellor and Lindsay named in the tournament’s All-Australian side.
Mikunda averaged 13.3 disposals and kicked three goals across his four games in the Big V, and also featured for Werribee in the VFL.
Mellor is a Geelong NGA prospect and averaged two goals and 11 touches across the tournament and impressed for the Cats in the VFL in multiple appearances.
Lindsay has been touted as a top 10 chance in the coming draft thanks to his precision by foot and overall class. He averaged 22 touches (17 kicks) for the Big V.
The Combine is one of the final chances for players to prove themselves before the draft.
