Female basketballers wanted
THE Surf Coast Basketball Association is looking to add dedicated female players to its all girls competition.
With the new W19 season fast approaching, the association is hoping to go from strength to strength with its female side across all ages in a range of teams, including under 10, under 12, under 14 and under 16.
Surf Coast Basketball Association’s Craig Smith said past mixed competitions in the younger groups perhaps kept some local girls from selecting basketball as their chosen sport.
“We are confident that once we offer girls only games, the numbers will increase rapidly,” he said.
“To complement this, we will also be looking to offer a female only basketball academy in terms two and three.
“One of the advantages for both boys and girls in the region now is that they can access qualified coaching and development pathways which filter down to us via Basketball Australia.
“All we need now is to increase the female participation to fully take advantage of this.”

Craig said even if you don’t have a full line-up of players, the association will “make it happen”.
