Fight series confirmed for March return
LOCAL mixed martial artists will again get to showcase their talents on the local stage when SALT Fight Series 2 swings by Wurdi Baierr Stadium later this year.
Bones MMA owner and co-organiser of SALT Fight Series Matt Williams said it was a quick decision between himself and promotor Will Shiels to embark on a sequel event just as, if not more successful than the original last year on November 19.
Williams confirmed this week that the second instalment was scheduled for March 18.
“After the event, Will and I sat in the octagon after everybody left and had a Bells Brewing lager,” Williams said.
“Before we reached the bottom of the can we were already planning the second show.”
SALT Fight Night’s original show was a raging success, selling out more than a month and a half in advance and transforming Wurdi Baierr Stadium from a basketball, netball and volleyball centre into a fully-fledged fight arena.
Williams recalled how taken aback he was to see the turnout at last year’s event.
“We were incredibly impressed, and appreciative of the community support,” he added.
“Wurdi Baierr and the Surf Coast Shire were fantastic. We had 500 mostly local supporters come through the door bringing with them an amazing energy that filled the stadium.
“The local sponsors made the last event possible and without the local business community in our corner we couldn’t do it alone.
“We are current attracting value aligned businesses who are keen to support the show for the March edition.”
With fights from SALT Fight Series garnering more than 70,000 views on YouTube since November, the Torquay business owner said the format will remain relatively unchanged, with six local athletes to feature on the next card, headlined by Deans Marsh’s own Roy “Warbred” Armistead.
“We are aiming to keep the same format moving forward, starting in the afternoon and finishing early evening,” Williams said.
“We punched straight through the fights with no breaks, and people really appreciated the matchmaking, constant entertainment, and energy that the afternoon start afforded the event.”
Those interested in attending SALT Fight Series 2 are urged to keep updated on Bones MMA’s social media sites, with tickets to go on sale soon.
