Fisher to lead female Tigers in 2023/24
A KEY figure of Torquay Cricket Club’s First XI men’s side will take on the mantle of women’s coach for the 2023-24 season.
Torquay player John Fisher, who stepped into the women’s coaching role halfway through last season, has officially taken over the position for this coming summer.
Fisher said he was grateful for the opportunity to coach the women’s team after leading them to a preliminary final berth at the start of the year.
“I’m looking forward to seeing the team build on the strong finish of last season.
“I hope to help build an encouraging environment for players of all standards to achieve their best and continue to strengthen the relationship between the senior men’s and women’s playing groups.”
Fisher boasts prior coaching experience, coaching Torquay’s under-17 boys in 2021-22 and 2022-23. He also recently joined the club’s committee.
Fisher is presently overseas, playing cricket and teaching in England. He will official begin coaching duties for next season when he returns home in the coming months.
Torquay women’s co-ordinator Paige Zotti said Fisher was an incredible coach last year.
“He is very knowledgeable about the game and understands our balance of having fun, but also wanting to improve,” Zotti said.
“We are looking forward to hearing about his English cricket adventures and using his tips for another enjoyable summer of cricket.”
Torquay Cricket Club is seeking expressions of interest from potential players at all levels for the coming season.
