Flags on the mind of re-elected Tigers president

A CLUB Championship will be the top of the agenda for Tim Humphries as he enters his second season at the helm of the Torquay Cricket Club.

Torquay’s preparations for the 2023-24 season began on June 1, following the conclusion of the club’s annual general meeting and the re-appointment of Humphries.

“I am excited to work with the newly elected committee to continue to develop the club, both on and off the field,” Humphries said.

“I would like to thank long serving committee members Chris Speldewinde, Scottie Martella and Neil Barnard for their service.”

There are several new committee members hoping to bring fresh ideas and enthusiasm to the club. They include Jan Bumpstead (secretary), Mariah O’Brien, Lily Matern and Andi Oliver.

“Last season showed the support of the town for the Torquay Cricket Club with increased attendance and messages of support for big games such as the Senior Men’s T20 competition, Battle of the Bridge with Jan Juc, and for the three teams that played finals cricket this year,” Humphries said.

“We will look to continue to improve our Junior Boys and Girls programs. We have seen continued growth in these programs over the last few years and look forward to helping these juniors develop into long term players in the Senior Men’s and Women’s competitions moving forward.”

The returning president said winning the Geelong Cricket Association’s Club Championship would be Torquay’s highest priority on the field.

“Along with increasing junior participation, success with the Senior Women’s team and after going so close this year to a First XI Premiership, we would love to go one step better this year in what is the 20 year anniversary of our last First XI Premiership, led by Chris Kelly.”
