TORQUAY basketball stalwart Adam Forde has been awarded Surfcoast Basketball Association’s (SBA) inaugural life membership, recognising his significant contributions to the club.

Since officially forming in 2017, the SBA has become the main basketball organisation in the Surf Coast, across domestic, representative and junior competitions.

The growth was triumphed by the opening of the Wurdi Baierr Stadium in Torquay, which is now the hub for all SBA competitions and facilities.

Forde was announced as the SBA’s first life member at the association’s annual general meeting in July, with his efforts for basketball on the Surf Coast extending long before the SBA was formed.

The alignment and commitment to basketball in the Forde family is clear, with Adam’s late brother Nick having also made large inputs into the Geelong United NBL1 women’s program.

“Adam has been a key contributor to the growth and success of the Surfcoast Basketball Association,” the SBA stated.

“As one of the driving forces behind the creation of both the Surfcoasters Basketball Club and the Surfcoast Basketball Association, Adam has played a pivotal role in shaping basketball opportunities on the Surf Coast.

“His dedication to the growth and improvement of SBA has seen him contribute in countless ways, serving as a board member – including vice president, representative coach, domestic coach, and referee.

“Congratulations Adam – this is a well-deserved tribute to a person who has given so much to basketball on the Surf Coast.”
