From the Mat with the Anglesea Bowling Club, December 2
It has been a hectic return to the “nearly normal” at Anglesea.
After some dramatic matches and upsets, the Finals of both the Men’s and Women’s Singles Championship 2021 took place on a balmy Sunday afternoon with a growing army of spectators who enjoyed two excellent games of bowls. Alex McPherson bravely battled injury to contest a brilliant performance by Terry Hope. Terry added to a stellar year by taking out the title. A resolute Carmen Koster staved off the very tenacious Estie Wines in a nail-biter. Congratulations to Terry and Carmen, and a big thanks to our volunteers who prevented spectators from going hungry or thirsty.
The Club Pairs (both Men & Women) Championships are now under way. Our Pennant sides are competing confidently and successfully. Several Anglesea teams have done very well in the Geelong Bowls Region/State competitions. Anglesea hosts the GBR/State Over 60’s Men’s Pairs this Sunday, December 5 and, although spectators are welcome, rinks will be booked out for this competition for most of the day. There is a function in the Clubhouse during that afternoon.
While there is still some work to be done to keep lifting the Club’s appearance and amenity, we have updated our outdoor seating and shelters, built a new front fence and upgraded lighting and security.
The 25th Annual “Triples for Triers” will be held at the Club starting 6.30pm Thursday, December 6. The Silver Anniversary of this extremely popular local Community Bowls event will be conducted with the generous support of the Anglesea Community Bendigo Bank.
Presentations for the 2020 season Club Championships took place on Tuesday evening, and a big turnout of members enjoyed an excellent evening, compliments of our volunteers and Offshore Café & Catering. Congratulations to all winners and runners-up who bowled so well in a difficult season.
