From The Mat – October 26, 2017
BY tradition, the weekend of the first tuesday in november has been the trigger for the onslaught of the first wave of activity in the caravan parks and holiday homes.
At the torquay Bowls Club, it also signals the beginning of the summer season.
This year is no different, with heaps of action around the club over the weekend and all are welcome.
The extremely popular Friday night raffles and happy hour again get the ball rolling, followed on Sunday november 5, by the amazing aussie/dC band (formerly dirty deeds). the last time they played at the club it was a sell-out and anyone looking to be part of the action should book at the bar now.
On Cup Eve, the club and the Greens Bistro will be open for visitors and members to make the most of the weekend.
On Cup day, the festivities reach a climax with the action beginning at 11am.
On the agenda will be sweeps, fashions on the field for men, women and couples and a best hat or headpiece competition.
Also looming on the horizon is the new Year’s Eve extravaganza featuring Cool Change, a brilliant band specialising in covers of Little river Band hits. For the past two years this band has performed to a capacity crowd and this year looks set to follow suit. Bookings will be taken at the bar.
Back on the greens the season is beginning to take shape, with our Saturday and MidWeek teams enjoying mixed success.
