From The Mat – April 12, 2018

AS the season draws to a close for another year, let’s see how our teams finished up.

SATURDAY PENNANT

Following a weeks delay due to total fire bans in the district, the Torquay Bowls Club had three teams competing in Preliminary finals on the Saturday 24th March.

With heavy rain during Saturday morning, teams from divisions 1, 4 and 9 were uncertain if play was going to commence. But with Grand Finals scheduled for the following day all divisions started play at 1pm with shortened, 21 end matches.

Unfortunately, the results did not fall Torquay’s way on Preliminary final day with all three teams unable to secure a win or a Grand final berth.

Division one lost to Ocean Grove by 22 shots with Alan Sampson’s rink winning by 5 shots.

Division four lost to Leopold by 16 shots with Gary Wakefield’s rink winning by 7 shots.

Division nine lost to Highton by 13 shots with Arnie Rich’s rink winning his rink by 4 shots.

Although ultimate success was not ours this year, well done to all our Torquay Bowls Club teams on a very successful season.

LIVE MUSIC

Mic Conway’s 50th anniversary tour is coming to the bowls club on Saturday 26th May.

Mic Conway is an ARIA winning performer who brings music, tap dancing, juggling and even fire eating straight from Circus Oz. Truly a show not to be missed.

Tickets $20 for members and $25 for Nonmembers.

BISTRO ON THE GREEN

Tuesday night is Parmi Night at the Torquay Bowls Club.

Come in and try a delicious classic parmi and a pot of beer for only $15.

There are four types of parmi available, guaranteed to satisfy the most heartiest of hungers.

That wraps up the bowls season for 2017-18. The Year that saw Torquay crowned as the Australia’s Bowls club of the year.

Until next season, happy bowling!
