From the Mat – January 10, 2019
THE big news from The Esplanade is that we have appointed a new manager who took over from Phil Girvan last week.
With Phil retiring the man taking the reins is Peter Temple who comes in with more than 20 years of experience in the hospitality industry, Peter also has been in the police force and an athletics coach.
Chairman Mac Smith welcomed Peter to the club and also paid tribute to the work done by Phil in getting the business side of the club off to a great start.
Over the holiday period the greens have been awash with locals and visitors taking time out from the beaches and enjoying an hour or two of barefoot bowls.
The club has staff on deck to run budding bowlers through the do’s and don’ts of the game and provides all of the equipment needed to have some fun while enjoying our fantastic views. Just about the ideal way to build up a thirst or appetite for the bar and bistro!
And speaking of the greens, both MidWeek and Saturday pennant are back in action in the run to the finals with several teams primed for strong showings.
At the Christmas break, in the MidWeek pennant the Division 1 side was sitting in second place, Division 2 was fifth, Division 5 was on top and Division 6 was sixth. In the Saturday competition, Division 1 was fourth, Division 3 was sixth, Division 4 ninth, Division 6 fifth, Division 8 fifth and Division 9 was fourth.
Also, the Twilighters have resumed their shenanigans on Wednesdays and Thursdays and that the bragging rights of having had two of their finest reach the semi-finals stage of the men’s club championships.
On the entertainment front the club is running a free Music on the Deck session on January 15 and on January 26 it will stage The Essence of Elvis show.
The latter will cost $25 for members and $30 for nonmembers. Tickets can be purchased at the club bar.
