GEELONG faces a tough assignment tomorrow (Saturday, March 29) when it comes up against reigning premiers the Brisbane Lions at the Gabba.

The Cats will look to get back on the AFL winners’ list after suffering a loss to the Saints last weekend.

Geelong trailed by as much as 40 points throughout the night before charging back in the last quarter but falling seven points short.

Tom Atkins tried his best in the middle, amassing 20 disposals and recording 11 tackles.

Lawson Humphries, Mark Blicavs and Jack Henry also showed glimpses of brilliance in the hoops.

Geelong coach Chris Scott said his team gave itself a chance to win.

“That’s the positive. So many things were going against us. It would have been easy to turn our toes up and say it wasn’t our night, but we really had a chance to win.

“Sometimes you can look at these sorts of games and focus too much on what you’re doing, but they [the Saints] were clean.

“Their kicking skills are at a really high level. They worked their way out of any pressure and gave themselves good looks.

“We just weren’t able to slow that down enough to get things going our way.”

Ahead of tomorrow night’s matchup, Geelong holds a relatively strong record, having won nine of their last 13 matches at the Gabba dating to 2014.

In their last meeting, Brisbane defeated Geelong in the 2024 Preliminary Final by 10 points.
