The club confirmed Gleeson would go on leading the Tigers’ football program at the club’s past players, officials and life members day at Spring Creek Reserve today (Saturday, July 25).
Gleeson said he was grateful for the opportunity to extend his tenure.
“I’d like to thank the board led by Cam Healy, for their ongoing support, as well as my family, friends — and importantly, the playing group and my assistants.
“Week in and week out, I’m in awe of this collective group. It’s a privilege to be part of their individual and collective journeys.
“The Torquay Football Club holds a special place in the hearts of so many here on the coast, and along with my family we feel incredibly proud to be a part of it.”
The Tigers won their eighth, ninth and 10th flags under Gleeson – in 2017, 2023 and 2024 respectively – and he has them in premiership contention again this year, sitting second after Round 14 with four rounds of the regular season to go.
Gleeson was playing coach until the end of the 2022 season, retiring after 107 Bellarine Football League games, and is the longest serving coach at both Torquay and in the BFL.
Torquay president Cam Healy said Gleeson’s leadership and loyalty were unrivalled.
“Since joining Torquay, Dom has guided the Tigers to three senior premierships, earning the respect of players, coaches, and the broader football community.”
He said Gleeson’s impact went well beyond match day.
“Under his leadership, our senior program has become a destination for local and returning talent., the link between junior and senior football has never been stronger, with clear pathways and mentorship for emerging players.
“He’s had fostered and driven a culture of accountability, connection, and commitment — the pillars of our sustained success.
Healy said Gleeson’s 12th season would be more than a milestone, as it “represents a deep and ongoing commitment to our club, our community, and our people”.
“We thank Dom, his wife Erin and children Sullivan and Missy for continuing to invest their time, passion, and heart into Torquay.”
