GMHBA Stadium to host Galaxy United

March 14, 2018 BY

GMHBA Stadium – seen here ahead of January’s Victory vs Mariners clash – will again host soccer, with five WNPL games featuring Galaxy United scheduled there on May 19.

GALAXY United FC is taking over GMHBA Stadium later this year, announcing it will play five Women’s National Premier League (WNPL) over the course of a single day at the Geelong venue.

The Surf Coast-based soccer club and Kardinia Park Stadium announced the community event, which will be held on May 19, to mark International Women’s Day

Galaxy United FC, regional Victoria’s only WNPL club, will host Bulleen Lions in a showcase of the very best football talent that Geelong has to offer, from the under-12s through to Galaxy United’s senior team.

As the day will be a festival of women’s football, other promotions and events will be run throughout the day that complement the participation and promotion of women in sport.

The day will culminate with a Women’s Gala Dinner, where a presentation will be made to the Geelong region’s Female Football Administrator of the Year.

Kardinia Park Stadium Trust chief executive officer Michael Brown said the trust was very excited to be working with Galaxy United FC on the new community event.

“The Trust is committed to forming partnerships that give back to our community through events, experiences and opportunities to participate.

“The fact that this event highlights the bright future of local women’s sporting pathways; it’s a reason to celebrate.”

Galaxy United FC president Rob Lehmann heralded last week’s announcement as a huge step forward for women’s football in the Geelong region.

“This announcement is not just recognition for the Galaxy United family but for female footballers across the whole Geelong region.

“For Kardinia Park Stadium Trust to provide this opportunity is monumental for women’s football and we are committed to making this a very memorable day.”

Games will be played at 9am (under-12 WNPL), 10.10am (under-14 WNPL), 11.30am (under-16 WNPL), 1.15pm (under-19 WNPL), 3.15pm (FFV Geelong Women’s Division 1), and 5.15pm (seniors WNPL).
