Gurpreet Singh joins Tigers from Dandenong West

THE Torquay Cricket Club has welcomed new recruit Gurpreet Singh to its men’s squad for the coming season.

Singh joins the Tigers from Dandenong West Cricket Club in the Dandenong District Cricket Association Turf 2 division.

A left-arm bowler and middle order batsman, he captured 26 wickets at an average of 12.73 last season and scored 233 runs, including two half-centuries.

Those performances saw him claim the Charles Gartside Medal as the league’s best and fairest player.

Torquay coach James Fisher said Singh would add to the club’s depth with both bat and ball.

“We’re really pleased to have welcomed Gurpreet to the Tigers,” Fisher said.

“He brought a lot of energy to our first pre-season session, so he’s already looking like being a positive addition to the group.”

Singh, who has recently moved to the region from Melbourne, said he was glad to have found a new cricketing home.

“I’m happy to be playing at a good club and looking forward to this new challenge,” he said.

“I think if we have everyone together and playing their role in the team, we can enjoy some success this summer.”

Singh joins returning former Torquay juniors Tyson Windus (Geelong) and Chad Grossman (East Belmont) as additions to the Tigers’ playing list for the 2021-22 season.

Now COVID-19 restrictions have eased, men’s pre-season training was scheduled to will resume on Thursday nights at the Geelong Indoor Cricket Centre.
