Hawks rout Roos in BFL Semi-Final

DRYSDALE will get its rematch with Barwon Heads in next weekend’s Preliminary Final, following a convincing six-goal triumph over Anglesea in today’s (Sunday, August 27) Bellarine Football League (BFL) Semi Final.

The Hawks’ key position players proved too composed for Anglesea’s backline, winning 13.15.93 to 7.15.57 in Portarlington.

Drysdale got its noses in front early on with three majors, while Anglesea was wayward with its kicking, scoring 1.6 in the opening term.

Both outfits split the difference in the second term with three goals each.

Anglesea was still within an arm’s length at half-time, trailing 42-32, but Ben Carmichael’s side kicked into second gear with five third-quarter goals building a 34-point lead at the final huddle.

Both teams kicked a pair of goals in the fourth, while Drysdale ran out the clock in the final term walking out of Portarlington with a 36-point win.

Drysdale’s heavy hitters in James Breaust (four goals), Ben Fennell (three goals) and Tom Ruggles (two goals) made their presence felt inside the forward 50. The Hawks were further bolstered by Christopher Tainton’s two.

Ben Fennell, James Breust, Mitch O’Dowd, Benjamin Henderson, Lauchlan Dalgleish, and Luke Preece received best-on-ground praise for Drysdale.

Jarrod Bacon and Lewis Beers were Anglesea’s only multiple goal scorers with two apiece, while Jack Baker, new inclusion Alexander Croft and playing-coach Jordan Keras all notched up singles.

 

Lachlan Smith, Will Batson, Noah Collins, Noah McGregor-Dawson, Sam Leeds, and Jack Rice were named best-on-ground for Anglesea.

Drysdale lost to Barwon Heads in Week One of the finals by two points, its third loss of the season to the Seagulls.

It is also back-to-back years that Drysdale and Barwon Heads will participate in the Preliminary Final, with the winner to play Torquay.

The two teams meet again next Saturday, September 2 at Grinter Reserve, Newcomb.
