Hells Bells and 50 Year Storm coming up

June 13, 2019 BY

THE marquee event of the Torquay Boardriders calendar is just around the corner with the annual Hells Bells event gathering the best surfers in Victoria in a one-off open invitational event at Bells Beach.

The event, which will run on Saturday June 22, will see one surfer raise the coveted Bunjil trophy and take home the prestigious event title putting their names in the Victorian surfing history books.

Past event winners in Torquay, Boardriders president Cahill Bell-Warren and Vice-President Harry Mann will look to take home a second title but will be challenged no doubt by the brigade of the field who will look to take out their first Hells Bells title.

With a stacked field including the best juniors, open and masters surfers in the state, it will be a highly entertaining affair from start to finish.

I urge anyone to get down and watch all the action on Saturday week and support the best surfers in the state.

Who will take it out? We will wait and see.

MEANWHILE, this past weekend saw many of our members take part in the opening ceremony for the Bells Beach 50-year storm event in memory of Shaun Brooks.

The 50-year storm, a big wave event supporting and raising funds for mental health will see the best big wave chargers take on the beast that is the powerful surf of Bells Beach in what will be a highly entertaining day for an amazing cause.

To begin the waiting period, surfers took part in a traditional Wathaurong welcome, an introduction of the nominated surfers and then a paddle out and party wave out in the Bells Beach line-up.

Now the town and the nominated surfers will wait in anticipation for a 50-year storm like swell to raise money for mental health.

Keep updated with all social media and word around the town on when the event will run. That’s a wrap.

Stay cool and see you down at Bells for Hells Bells and the 50-year storm event.
