Inclusive Open draws crowds

February 13, 2020 BY

THE Victorian Inclusive Championship has been run and won, held at Barwon Heads in the days preceding the ISPS Handa Vic Open.

The first day of the Open was held at Barwon Heads Golf Club on February 3, then moved to 13th Beach Golf Links the following day.

Golf Australia national inclusion manager Christian Hamilton said the number of spectators at both courses displayed how public perception towards the event has changed.

“The first time we were here and at the Australian Open you could see people sort of pointing at the players and whispering among themselves, wondering what it was all about.

“But so many people have now seen our players up close that it’s become quite normal for a lot of spectators, and to be honest that is exactly what we’re aiming for.”

The event was won by Cameron Pollard – Australia’s highest ranked All Abilities player- who had a magnificent turnaround.

By the ninth hole on the first day he was 12-over with his score at 46. But a dramatic change in form saw him end the day on 82.

The following day he then pulled away from the field to achieve an eight-shot victory. Michael Rolls finished in second place and Arnold Bamroong in third.
