A CALF, an IT band tear, a back, a wrist and a hip – you can almost hear the injuries happen as you listen to Surfcoast Chargers women’s coach Stef Grayson reel off her team’s injury list.
“We’re just a bit unlucky but hopefully our luck turns around very soon,” she said.
The Chargers have had to dig deep across the past month in the Big V Division 2 competition, and they are hoping to end a four-game losing streak when they take on Keysborough away tomorrow (Saturday, May 24) at 6pm.
While Brooke McKay (hip) is a chance to return, Anna Teague (calf) and Lisa Patterson (iliotibial band tear) are still about three weeks away.
Candice Rogers (back) and Molly Kent (wrist) have returned but are being managed.
The Chargers nearly broke through in last weekend’s 63-59 loss with Amy Hooiveld sinking 18 points and Rogers making 16.
Grayson said she wanted to keep seeing her players hold their heads high in adversity.
“We know Keysborough is going to be a rough trot,” she said.
“They’re going to play hard the whole time. We played them a couple of weeks ago (losing 83-61), so we’ll learn from that.”
Despite the tough run lately, the Chargers women are fifth on the table with four wins from nine games.
The Surfcoast men’s team has a huge test against Mildura away tomorrow at 8pm.
The men are top of the Division 2 ladder and undefeated after eight games.
