Jan Juc paddle boarders steal the show at SUP Titles
VICTORIA’S finest paddle boarders turned out to 13th Beach at the weekend for the final day of the Victorian SUP Titles, which saw two Jan Juc athletes take the top spot in the Open Women’s and Open Men’s divisions.
Originally scheduled for Point Impossible, event organisers decided to change locations as the iconic Barwon Heads beach was serving more favourable conditions, a move that was welcomed by competitors.
Jan Juc’s Emma Webb sliced through the Open Women’s division, ripping into decent left handers and scoring a total heat result of 17.40 out of a possible 20 in the final.
“These were the best waves that we’ve ever had for a SUP comp,” she said.
“It’s good to catch up with everyone and involve myself in a competition that is social and fun.”
Webb also delivered strong performances in the Over 40 Women’s Final and Open Women’s 10ft Longboard Final, stealing the show in all the divisions she entered.
Matt Takle, who also represented Jan Juc, was behind one of the highest scoring rides seen over the duration of the day, achieving an 8.90 out of a possible 10 in the Open Men’s division.
“It was good to be on my forehand surfing today,” he said.
“The conditions became pretty challenging as the wind came up, but the waves were still fun.”
