THE Jan Juc Surf Lifesaving Club and Torquay Surf Lifesaving Club joined forces last weekend for a training session with a difference.

More than 200 Nippers from both clubs came together at the Torquay surf beach for a morning of competition practice on Sunday morning; a valuable hit out in the lead up to the State Championships scheduled for March.

TSLSC junior development director Scott McCardel thought it was great the two clubs could come together for friendly competition.

“When our two clubs come together, we have school friends and neighbours competing against each other, and the barracking is very loud and passionate,” he said.

“The kids love it, and it’s a lot of fun for all involved.

“It’s great that we can be a two-club town, coming together to encourage each other to do our best, everyone wins from that perspective.”

Both clubs will head to the final qualifying carnival in Lorne on February 25 to complete their State Championship teams and proudly represent the Surf Coast.
