MODEWARRE is now eyeing the Semi-Final in this year’s Bellarine Football League Finals Series, defeating Geelong Amateur at Ron Evans Oval yesterday (Sunday, August 18) in Portarlington.

Mark Hovey’s Warriors booted seven second-half goals to run away 9.12 (66) to 15.9 (99) winners, setting up a clash with Drysdale back in Portarlington Sunday for a spot in the Preliminary Final.

Modewarre initially trailed 26-15 at the first break, capped off by a goal by the Ammos’ Patrick Dowling from the right half-forward flank.

Connor Joseph’s terrific afternoon in front of goals began in the opening quarter with two early majors, before kicking his third to begin the second term.

Josh Finch left the field in the fourth quarter with a leg injury.

Modewarre wrestled back the advantage before half-time to lead 42-52 at the main break.

Ammos then kicked two goals in the third to try to get the lead back, but it was for naught.

The Warriors built up a four-goal lead at three-quarter time lead (55-79) before Joseph struck again with the opening major of the fourth quarter.

Modewarre outscored its opponents seven goals to three in the second half, which proved to be the difference on the day with the final margin being 33 points.

Joseph finished the contest with a six-goal bag, while Will Thrum and Scott Morter made valuable scoring contributions with three and two goals respectively. Tom Hornsey, Josh Hovey, Seb Hutley and Matty McKim all kicked one goal each.

Patrick Dowling was a rare bright spot for Geelong Amateur with two goals.

All eyes will be on Modewarre’s Josh Finch over the next few days after the four-time Les Ash medallist left the oval with an apparent leg injury in the middle of the fourth quarter.

Lachlan Devine and Dowling each kicked a pair for Geelong Amateur, while Tom Gribble, Zac Nelson, Jai Sheahan and Blake Sutterby kicked one goal each.
