Juc hosts surf skills burst with Hurst
MORE than 100 members from Jan Juc SLSC had the pleasure of learning from one of Australia’s best Ironman last weekend.
Olympian and Surf Life Saving Australian Hall of Fame member Ky Hurst made the trip down to Jan Juc for a third consecutive year to host two clinics for the club’s aspiring surf stars.
Hurst is a 32-time Australian Surf Life Saving gold medallist and a tri-champion of the Uncle Toby’s Super Series Championships.
Club members, from 10 years of age through to senior competitors, were taken through their paces in board training, swimming, beach safety and education and ski races.
Hurst also had dinner and a Q&A session with club members on the Friday before the clinics and ran swim training on the Monday morning.
Jan Juc SLSC competition manager and director Tim Watson said it was great to again have Hurst at the club to impart his wisdom and skills.
“He’s such a lovely and engaging guy, and it was fantastic to have him down to help our members.
“Our Nippers had a ball asking him questions on the Friday night, then Saturday he was with the seniors, and then Sunday he did 40-minute sessions with each of our junior age groups.
“To see him so willing to help our guys is just great. He’s really started to build a relationship with the guys over this three-year period.
“We can’t wait for the next time.”
