ABORIGINAL surf communities from across the state will come together for the 28th running of the Woorrangalook Victorian Koori Surfing Titles next month.

The February 7 event at Urquhart Bluff will feature more than 150 surfers spanning all surfing abilities.

Initially held in Warrnambool, the event has become a staple on the Victorian surfing calendar with huge crowds filling into the beach to check out the action.

The event will bring together competitors from Geelong and the Surf Coast, metropolitan Melbourne, East Gippsland, north-west and south-west Victoria.

Multiple time Koori Surfing Titles winner Jordie Campbell will feature in the event.

A traditional Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony will open the festival on the Saturday morning before surf lessons and competition begins at approximately 9am.

Surfing Victoria chief executive officer Adam Robertson looked forward to the event coming back to town.

“The Woorrangalook Victorian Koori Surfing Titles is an incredible gathering of Aboriginal communities from across the state and is one of the most enjoyable events on our calendar.

“From humble beginnings in Warrnambool on Gunditjmara Country with 20 competitors, the event has grown to become an amazing celebration with over 150 competitors and 200 community members attending.”
