Ladies tennis at the ’Lawn

Tuesday December 5, the annual ladies tournament at Geelong Lawn, with all eyes on the skies, following one of the rainiest periods for years.

While it wasn’t exactly summer, a mild day greeted the 78 participants in the very popular event, which has now been in existence for nigh on 25 years.

Those few days of continuous rain did, however, close the grass courts, with all matches being played on the Plexicushion and en tout cas courts.

This tournament has been a true standout for organisation, catering and sheer enthusiasm and this year was no exception, with some magnificent floral displays (some as prizes) and a superb set-up in those big clubrooms at the ’Lawn.

There were several very busy stalls, selling jewellery, handbags, cards, stuffed toys and more, not to mention a super spread of fine food.

What can you say? One great day of tennis and social activity to wind up 2017.

Worth mentioning that Racquet Works, that great little tennis shop, has recently relocated to the clubrooms at Geelong Lawn, doing all their usual stuff – racquets, clothes, restrings and more!

Upcoming events at Geelong Lawn include the prestigious Victorian Grasscourt Championships, played from Wednesday December 27 to Saturday December 30.

Eveyone’s welcome to drop into Geelong Lawn and have a look as the best of the state, interstate and overseas players slug it out. Tennis In Geelong will be there too!
