Local longboarders to represent Victoria
TEN of the region’s top longboard surfers will head to the Tweed Coast this month in the pursuit of an Australian title.
The Australian Surf Championships will be held from September 12-17 along the New South Wales North Coast and crown winners across 14 divisions.
Local surfers flying the flag for Victoria will include Molly Powell, Rori Reyntjes, Asha Reeves, Melanie Staunton, Matthew Shay, Nathan Rivalland, Ted Conroy, Penny Andrews, Brian Kuit and Bob Smith.
Fresh off her second wildcard in the Bells Beach Longboard Classic, Anglesea’s Molly Powell said excitement was high heading into the championships.
“It’s been eight years since doing my last Aussie Titles, which I won back in 2016.
“My goals to just do my best with whatever conditions are thrown our way. Hopefully back up my 2016 win.
“I feel we have such a strong women’s team going up and I can’t wait to be a part of that team to represent the Victorians.”
Surfing Victoria chief executive officer Adam Robertson and the team at Surfing Victoria wished competitors luck in the pursuit of gold at the championships.
Heat draws are slated to be confirmed in the next fortnight.
