LIFE Saving Victoria has selected five local surf boat crews to represent Victoria at the Surf Life Saving Australia Interstate Championships.

The event will be held at Sydney’s Wanda Beach on Friday February 13 and feature more than 100 top rowers from across the country.

Surf Coast clubs including Anglesea, Jan Juc and Lorne are sure to be up their as top favourites to take out their respective disciplines.

The crews from Jan Juc and Anglesea will contest the Under 19 Men’s and Women’s with both crews in their second State Team in as many years.

VSRL president Aaron Tanahill said the crews had been training extremely hard to prepare themselves for the event.

“We have an amazing mix of experienced athletes along with some new faces.

“We have athletes who have represented Australia and won national gold medals, and then we have some rowers who are representing their state for the first time. The balance is great and we are expecting strong results in NSW.”

The local crews will have a final training session on the Surf Coast this Sunday, February 8 where they will have have rowing legend John “Moose” Russell and his daughter, Mel, present the uniforms to athletes.
