TEN local athletes will represent Victoria at the Australian Surf Championships in Port Macquarie, New South Wales.

The event will take place over nine days and feature more than 100 of the country’s best surfers, bodyboarders and para athletes across nine days of action.

Action officially started yesterday (Thursday, August 1) with the bodyboarding divisions.

Dane Pope (Armstrong Creek) and Ben Roberts (Barwon Heads) are both searching for national titles after finishing in the finals of the event in 2023.

Surfers flying the flag up north include former open men’s state champion Tim Birnie (Jan Juc), 2023 Australian Surf Championships finalist Tiffany Riggs (Torquay), Ray MacIntosh (Torquay), and Grayme Galbraith (Jan Juc).

Surfing Victorian chief executive officer Adam Robertson said he looked forward to watching Victoria in action.

Tim Birnie will be representing the Surf Coast in the Australian Surf Championships.

“Congratulations to all Victorians who have been selected as part of the 2024 Victorian State Team heading to Port Macquarie.

“This is one of the biggest events on the Australian surfing calendar, and we wish all the Victorian State Team the very best for the event.”

The primary location for the event is Bonny Hills with back up locations including North Haven, Middle Rock, Lake Cathie, Lighthouse Beach, Flynns Beach and Town Beach.
